Parental Rights
About the issue:
Attacks on the institution of the family seem to grow more rampant every day. From Congress' seeming disregard for parental authority to the Texas Legislature's passing of a bill that elevates grandparents over parents, we see how important it is to stand for the rights of parents.
In various communities and states nationwide, parents who choose to homeschool their children are maligned, and sometimes threatened by their state governments. In Texas, a bill (SB 1440) was passed with a little-known amendment that allowed Child Protective Services to enter a home or school and take a child for interview without parental consent or without what the law calls "just cause."
What We're Doing:
Liberty Institute believes strongly that parents have the final say with their children. That is why we sought a veto on SB 1440, which would have endangered parental rights. That is why we support parents who choose to homeschool their children, and that is why we work to support legislation that ensures that grandparents' rights are not considered more important than parents' rights.
